Toilet flange

Cangowrongwillgowrong | Posted in General Discussion on December 24, 2008 11:24am

Got into a situation where I ended up buying a toilet flange that fits inside the 3″ PVC. The waste opening of course is now reduced to approx. 2-1/2 to 2-3/4 inch and I’m wondering what code says. This all came to be from raising an existing floor and then trying to deal with an existing flange that was cracked. In retrospect I should have added the 3″ pipe stub and looked for a new flange that fit over that, not inside it.  Anyway, everythings glued up at this point and I’m wondering if that reducing flange will work or if I need to tear everything back out and start over.

Clear as mud???

thanks

    It should work just fine.

Do a search on the particular type toilet you have and you will likely find that the actual discharge opening is less than 2 1/2". Higher end models may go up tp 2 3/4", and lower end ones go down to close to 2". Even the goose neck and internal trap of most are in those ranges, so everything that goes through the toilet (except the toys) passes through a smaller opening than the pipe it is discharged into.

Someone posted a site once that listed the discharge size for most brands of toilelts. 2" was the norm, but some of them were up 2 1/2" IIRCC.

Can you do me a favour and reply to this post as a test? My wife changed computer browsers several weeks ago and I'm just now managing to get back on line!! Thanks.

            Sorry I didn't reply.

I got called in to work and just signed on from there to see what was going on.

I haven't been on BT from home for a month or better. They won't let me on because DW has our security set to block thier cookies.

No cookies,... no Breaktime, ... that's thier rules.

At work, they just think they are setting thier cookies. Our servers just eat them and they never reach any individual PC.

Have her call me.  I'll set her straight.  Your input is useful to BT.

Glad to see you are lurking.

I'll have her call you, but thus far it has been no big deal to me. I work 10 hr days and with get up and commute time I'm close to 15 hours. By the time I in for the evening, I'm pretty much done. Days off ? I'm still building,... there ain't no stink days off!

BTW "setting her straight" would not be a term I would use to her or anyone else.

I didn't mean it to sound harsh.

            but your input is useful.

You should be able to set your computer at home to accept cookies from BT, even if you have disabled them. If you are using Firefox, look on the top bar and select Tools -- Options -- Privacy. There's a spot in the middle of the box about cookies. Even if "accept cookies from sites" is left unchecked, you can still set an exception for taunton.com that should allow you to surf BT.It should be something similar on Explorer and the rest.'Man who say it cannot be done should not interrupt man doing it' ~ Chinese proverb
