Does anyone know if there are different lengths of toliet flanges availible? While installing my toilet flange today, I realized that I still have 3/4″ of height between the tile and the bottom of the flange.
The rough in was done by a pro and he left the current flange for me to finish, but I’m wondering if he gave me a flange for a subfloor install. My install is just tile over concrete. It’s also the type of flange that goes on the inside of 4″ drain.
Anyway, it would probably be possible to cut my drain line, but I’d rather not do that if possible..
If anyone has any ideas, I’d be interested.
Thanks!
Patrick

Are you trying to slip the flange into a 4" pipe or into a 4" elbow?? If it is into a pipe, you shouldn't have any problem unless the pipe is actually sticking above the finished floor level.
If it is directly into an elbow and the elbow is too close to the finished floor height, then you will have to find a shorter flange or cut the one you have to fit.
Corrib,
With the type of flange you have, SOP is to set your finish flooring, cut the pipe flush to it, then glue in the flange. It works great.
Since the flange fits down inside the pipe, and will (MUST) be mechanically fastened to the floor, it does not need to insert its full depth to not leak. 3/4" will work fine.
Does this help you?

Corrib,
Your post's edit was not up when I first replied. Reading it again, it sounds like you are saying that the flange is 3/4" ABOVE your tile when you have it all the way shoved into the 4" line.
If I am correct about that, then you do need to cut the pipe. If it is iron pipe, an easy way to cut it without scratching the tile is to plunge in with a small angle grinder at a small angle to the floor, then circumnavigate the pipe. Use a thin cutoff wheel. Use a wide putty knife for a safeguard.
If it is plastic pipe, just cut it with a Sawzall and a 12" blade, using a sheet of tin with a 4-5/8"hole in it to protect your tile.
If this won't get it, we need more info. If your flange is low, then Plumbbill has your answer.

To add what Bill said
It will be ok , but I would double wax the toliet when setting.
Standard wax stuck to toilet----- Deep seal with horn placed on flange.
Do you look to the government for an entitlement, or to GOD for empowerment. BDW
Why a double wax ring?Unless I am missing something the flange is too high.
I read it as too low

Thanks for the help guys. I ended up trimming the drain pipe to be flush with the floor. Once it was cut, the flange was flush with the floor. A couple Tapcons and I'm good to go.
Thanks for again for the info.
