I guess my folks raised me right. The FedEx van just came in the driveway. The driver opens the doors and there’s my new Hitachi chop saw in a big green box… and another one just like it too. Dang, I think, someone else bought the exact same saw on the exact same day. No… the driver puts mine on the ground and unloads the other one on top of it. Sign here, he says, pointing the electronic scanner thing at me. Wait… I only ordered one, I say, feeling confused and conflicted. Sure wouldn’t hurt to stock an extra BRAND NEW Hitachi SCMS for a rainy day, or a day with two jobs going at the same time.
But no, I couldn’t bear the guilt of cheating like that. He loaded the second one back in the van. Nice guys finish last. How much you bet he headed from my place to his and dropped the extra one in his garage??

Wait'll you get the bill.
Already checked that, both online and with my CC company. $430.... one Hitachi C10FSH including tax.
Good for you.
but those darn scruples show up at some inopportune times, don't they?
David, I've done the same. There's something that's been said about what goes around blah blah blah..........
Hopefully you will get the honesty reward in some way.
Now back to that comes around thing. Why didn't someone turn in my head cover I left at the driving range?
Rat bastards.
You done good, it's never a crime to be honest.

It just wasn't yours. Good job. It's still stealing, even if they do dump it in your lap by mistake.

Now I'm reminded of another story. I went into town this morning to have breakfast, and I started to put quarters in a newspaper machine outside where I eat. That machine has stolen from me about 4 times that I can remember. There isn't another one close so I usually risk it.
Well, today I throw the first quarter in and it falls. I throw the second one it and it does not fall. This is where I usually start losing money. I start cursing under my breath and thinking about whether I can punch a knee thru the plastic window in broad daylight, show those bastards that they can't punk me. Without much hope I push the coin return, and it drops out three quarters. I had only put two in. I push it again and it drops a few more. Push again and a few more. I end up with about $3 and a free paper. Yeah, I took it and read it, and I left the coins for the waitress. I figure that I'm even with that machine, so now it will probably take my money next time.
I found a fresh roll of quarters once in a car wash somewhere in South Dakota once. I thought good free carwash! A month later I left a roll of quarters in a car wash in Ky. did the same thing as the guy in SOuth Dakota. Put em up buy the control box so I'd have there to feed the timer. I was a block or so away when I realized I had left them. I started to turn around and go back. Then I smiled to myself. "Freaking karma" and kept on driving.

Lemme guess. You're doing a kitchen with 2 dishwashers, a main sink, a prep sink, a bar sink, a pot filler, 2 ovens, a sub zero refer next to a sub zero freezer, a wine chiller, a built in expresso machine, and an 8 burner cooktop with a 1" gas supply.
You did good.
I was in a gas station once waiting to pay. Fella in front pulled his wallet outa his back pocket and $5 fell on the floor. I picked it up and put it on the counter in front of him.
He turned round all puzzled like and asked if I was giving it to him.
Told him it was his money. He took it and left, still looking puzzled. <G>
I didnt care, wasnt mine.
Whatever it was.................I didnt do it.
something like that. two prep areas and a butler's pantry. Two FP dish drawers flanking main sink
Six burner burger burner with two ovens dual fuel
microwave built in
ice maker
beverage cooler
wine cooler
the twin refer/freezer
working island without appliances
salad sinksecond area has regular diswasher
undercounter refer

cabs and open shelf

No warming drawer? Or a steam oven even? Humpf. And I thought you worked on nice houses!

Well, it has indoor plumbing! How's that for fancy?Five and a half bathrooms and a laundry

you forgot to add the warming drawer...
I always though they were a waste until one of my clients(she had 2 warming drawers) invited us to a party and one held loaves of french/sourdough bread and the other had the appitizers.
Good stories. It happens to me quite often. Leave the world in balance. I figure it won't much matter after they come to clean out my closet.
You did good. Don't regret it.
>>Too many scruples<<
Sounds like just the right amount, to me.

Did you call the place you ordered it from, and tell them about the mixup ?
Are we there yet ?

I looked into that.... Amazon.com... no way to call them that I can see.
Look back at the message in this folder. There is one with Amazon or Tool Crib in the title and has a whole bunch of phone numbers for CS.Also you can email them.
About 3 years ago I kept getting a call from a small distribution company that they had a TV for me.I talked with them a couple of times and it did not appear a scam. IE, no deliver charges or the like. And the guy I talked to was just a wharehouse man and had no idea where it came from. But they called me several times before I filly convinced them that it wheren't for me.

Good for you. Stealing is stealing. Any other choice would have been just wrong.
David,
that will "come back" to you in time----most likely via the Fed Ex guy who will tell someone about your decency.
Best wishes,
Stephen
David, here's a similar story with a different outcome that may shed some new light on what may have happened. I ordered a router (Porter Cable) from Amazon and then sent for the free promotional item they were offering - They were offering template guides OR an edge guide, I chose the set of template guides. The guides arrived via UPS - it was a small package so they just left it, no signing was required. Several days latter, upon arriving home from work, I found that I had received another set. I couldn't just hand them back and wasn't about to go through the hassle of returning to Amazon one small item that they were giving away anyhow. So instead I called my buddy (who had ordered the same router from Amazon but had opted for the edge guide) and offered them to him. A few days latter, my buddy called saying that he had also received two edge guides and offered one to me.
After reading your post I'm wondering how many duplicate orders they shipped!?
David,
enjoy the peace of mind.
what some would consider insanity, will allow you to keep yours.

David:
My Dad was one of the most honest people that I've ever known.
When I was younger I used to think that he was nuts. Then one day we were watching the news or something and got into a discussion about morals and ethics. He said to me something to the effect of "your personal ethics are one of the only things that are yours and yours alone to control. No one can force you to tell a lie or to steal something, they may present you with the opportunity but they can't force you to take it. No one can steal them from you or change them for you." At the time I thought that was a pretty cool thought but as I've grown older I've come to realize just how important that little lesson was. God, I miss him some days.
You did right and don't ever let anybody tell you different.
BILL
Your personal honor and integrity are the only things that no one can take away, you give them up freely and once given away they may never come back. It's that kind of character that can persuade a customer to choose your bid eventhough it's not the lowest. It's also the one of the most persuasive points in a word of mouth market. You can't fake it and not everyone has it. Keep it, treasure it and pass it down to your children...
Thats some good carma in the bank. Go buy a lottery ticket!
