I have a craftsman tool box that I’ve filled with mechanical tools. I’m thinking of getting another one for woodworking tools and small power tools. I’d need deeper drawers for small power tools.
I found this on craiglist. It has a bench on top. I don’t think it has bearing drawers not that it matters to me. But I won’t use the bench for a lot of work. I think it will be a place to lay a lot of tools when a project comes up and then they will get put away after the dust settles. I don’t think using the bench for work is a good idea. The wheels look small and every time I vibrate or pound on the bench all the tools inside will dance. But laying tools on it will work.
the other issue is size. It will take up more space that I initially thought a box would take up.
I’ve contacted the seller and they said to make an offer. The bottom box and bench they asked $199 for. I’m thinking of offering a little more for both.
What do all you savy buyers think? Boxes come up fairly often so losing this isn’t a big issue.

i have that same bottom cabinet, compared to a craftsman tool box the cabinet is not as good of quality.when you buy it new you bolt it together,so it's not welded const.
it will work fine for what you want to use it for,the bottom drawers will work pretty good up to 50lbs.
i just got a old legal file cab i'm going to give a shot at holding routers and tall tools.larry
if a man speaks in the forest, and there's not a woman to hear him,is he still wrong?
what would you offer them for the bottom? For both? I'm not very good at wheeling and dealing. But that is what you are supposed to do. It's supposed to be a good price.
I would start out with, Hey I'll give you 199 for it all and then work up to maybe 250-275 max. Would have to see that top box, some of them are pretty cheezy, some bulletproof. Also depends on what drawer size I was interested. Machinist stype is not good if you have only big stuff. Big drawers not too good if you want to store many small items.
As far as I can see its a nice unit. You could replace the top with a cut solid door.
Reuse the top to make a more "wood workers" type of unit.
A little grease on the slides will work wonders.
I greased mine when I bought it and helped a lot.
I'd say the bottom bench looks like it'd be worth about $85-100 on CL, the work bench looks like it might be a very nice one with a decent vise - that'd be worth $75-125, and the top box, if slides - worth maybe $45-65, if Ball bearing - worth maybe $55-80.
Think to how it is when YOU sell something. When you ask $199, that's what you hope to sell. BUt if someone comes with $165 - chances are you'd take it to get it out of the way.
If you want all three, I'd offer $230 for the set and maybe go upto $250 if it was really clean.
You could remove the WW top - take a nice pic of it and sell it by itself for $130 easy if it's a good quality unit.

That's what I was thinking of. around $230 for everything. I'm not going much higher though. I emailed them and the drawers aren't't baal bearing. I have the top one already and it is fine with some grease on the guides. I can use the bottom one and the top one. My bigger tools won't go in the bottom but there are a lot of smaller power tools that will.
The bench isn't that nice from the pics I've seen. not a good wood and the vices are bottom of the barrel ones. Ok for most stuff but still chaeapos.
