Anyone out there have any experience with a product
called Durisol? It's an insulated conc. form made of
Portland cement and wood chips. I got some info from
the manufacturer, but would like some real world (not
the t.v. show) feedback. They claim it can be worked
with ordinary tools, is available up to R20, and will
even hold a drywall screw. Any help would be appreciated.

*He Fred,MMW is a great funk / jazz trio out of NYC. I noticed in your post a liking for some great Jazz improv music and this too fits the bill, their way of communicating to each other through the music is extraordinary. This is a link to the site http://www.mmw.net/index.htmlIf you are interested in hearing some of thier music feel free to email me.Good Listening!Dan

*Just got this one in the mail today, punk band Schlong put it out:b Punk Side Storybeen looking for it for four years. Sloppy drunken punkrock interpretation of West side story. Friggin' Beautiful. Love the internet, love it. They also did a cover of the album i Rumorsexcept called iti Tumorswhich is equally brilliant. Same album, about thirty minutes shorter in play time. Make you wanna burn down your neighbors house with joy.
*Have all the old radical hippy types forgotten/killed so many of their brain cells to omit VOLUNTEERS from Jefferson Airplane? And no mention of the Pointer Sisters especially BREAK OUT (I'm so exited ooo-whee). Baez Sings Dylan but that contains mostly Dylan's early stuff so it may be more folky.
*HeyCould we maybe segue this into Desert Island Discs.Ya know where you pick the 3, but we'll make it b 5(5 James.. . 5) albums that you would b haveto have if you were to be marooned on a desert island, blah, blah. This makes it open to b all types of music. After due consideration, I think I would be happiest with these... in no particular order>Beethoven 9th Symphony -Berlin Phil. Hey James-Nice picks again! And the rest of you guys too!
Haven't seen any mention of Janis Joplin yet so I'll throw her name in.

Patrick -
I DID pick 5 in my first post. The rest are just picks of the day. These are subject to change.
I guess you figured out that I really like music. It's what keeps me in good spirits most of the time.

james:ever see Mountain live?....they were something....shortlived (I think they may have had some of the classic r&r self destructive tendencies)...but really something
*stanley: u r right...Volunteers deserves a mention...but so too must Bless Its Pointed Little HeAD
*
Fred,
I really liked the Mountain "Climbing" album, and "Nantucket Sleighride". Mountain played at Woodstock. I know that the lead singer/guitar Leslie West formed a band called West,Bruce and Laing after Mountain. Leslie West could/can really play the lead guitar. Mountain got back together in 85 and I think they're still touring...
jim
*I caught them as part of a rock festival in Toronto half a life ago. . . kick ass version of Mississippi Queen brought the house to their feet!!
*Hey Fred,No, I never got to see them. I sure wish I would have had the chance. I listen to their music all the time, and people ask me "What the heck is THAT stuff?" Oh well, I like 'em anyway.I did see a video once of them, and Leslie West was playing the guitar, then all of a sudden, flipped it around and started playing it LEFT handed. It was awesome. To give you an idea of how incredible that is, guitars can be strung right or left handed. BUT... if they are strung right handed, flipping them around just makes everything upside down. It would kinda be like cutting with a skill saw while standing on your head.James DuHamel
*James, speaking of guitar playing theatrics/gymnastics, did you ever see Angus Young of AC/DC?The only guy I ever saw who could cross the stage at a dead run, go into a perfect "slide into home plate", lay on his back "floppin' like a fish outta water" and never miss a lick.Maybe I'll start a best guitarist thread in the Tavern...
*
Interesting choices, all. I like the regard C, S, N, and/or Y are getting.
But how about pre-"Born to Run" Springsteen? The Wild, The Innocent, & The E-street Shuffle should be on someone's list. George Thorogood & Delaware Destroyers, too.
As for desert island albums, I'd take "Will the Circle be Unbroken" by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, et al, the biggest Brubeck compilation I could get my hands on and three others I don't want to commit myself to yet.
*
I saw AC/DC in Houston, and Angus was AWESOME. He did flips off of the speakers, jumped into the audience, and flopped around on the stage - all the while never missing a lick. This was the very first time I ever saw (or heard of) a guitar player playing without a cord. He and Malcolm (rhythm guitarist, and Angus' brother) had boxes with an antanae taped to their guitars. At the time, this was absolutely awesome to see. It gave them an extraordinary amount of free movement, and they took advantage of it.
I like the idea of a best guitarist thread.

*Hey!How can a group of carpenters overlook the Doors?"Women seem wicked, when you're unwanted, faces seem strange when you're out in the rain"That's great music, good pop psycology, and an explanation for a fair portion of the insanity out there.Craig
*"Bridge of Sighs" Robin Trower"Scarecrow" John Mellencamp"Strong Persuader" Robert Cray"Diamond Life" Sadeanother vote for "Breezin'" by George Benson
*i People are strange, when you're a stranger, faces look ugly when your alone, women seem wicked, when your unwanted, streets are uneven when your down,. . . when your strange. . . faces come out of the rain, when your strange...no one remembers your name, when your strange."i "The killer awoke before dawn, he put his boots on, he took a face from the ancient gallery and he walked on down the hall. . ."Wore the grooves off the first two Doors albums -pm

Marooned on an island? Does it have power and a stereo? If I had all my LP's they may melt in the sun (for those that know what an LP is). If I were stuck on an island..... with my hand-cranked phonograph..... in no particular order...
The CARS: CANDY-O
VAN HALEN: Van HALEN II
MOZART ???? I'm not sure, one of those master collections with several works.
BEATLES: SGT. PEPPER
PINK FLOYD: DARK SIDE OF THE MOON

James, I shouldn't say this, but a bunch of those suck.
*Dont beat around the bush MD, tell us what you really think!twisted sister?
*Stuck on the island - give me a Gibson Jumbo Acoustic , a pallet full of strings and a couple of Djembe's to make my own tunes and hope my island is close enough to hear you jamming that hand cranker.Dan

*Five best albums. that would definitely depend on my mood. but here goes... Sandy Denny WHO KNOWS WHERE THE TIME GOES. this may be stretching the album concept a bit, as it is a three disc anthology. but she had such a beautiful voice, thoughtful lyrics and great music, be it folk, rock and roll or pop. Van Morrison POETIC CHAMPIONS COMPOSE. my personal favourite edging out ASTRAL WEEKSThe Waterboys THIS IS THE SEA// FISHERMAN'S BLUES i cannot decide which one i like the best. this is... is heavy on the guitar and sax while fisherman's blues is more irish traditionalOutback BAKA a jazzy folky rocking duo of guitar and digeridooKeith Jarret KOLN CONCERT quite improv pianoNick Drake PINK MOON this is for when the rest of the crews have left, the twilight is turning to alpen glow on the peaks. time to relaxI have left out alot can i have another five choices? There needs to be room for SAUCERFULL OF SECRETS and UMMAGUMMAGAMMA by Pink Floyd, some Pat Methany, The Allman Brothers LIVE AT THE FILLMORE. Tim Buckley or son Jeff anyone? Walk good
*Wow, I haven't thought of Tim Buckley forevah! There was at least one song of his that I loved--wish I could remember what it was :(
*Hey Mad Dog,To you, they may suck.But... this just shows that at least you have listened to them all, made your decision, and then listened to some others. This proves that you have at least tried to diversify your music tastes, and have come to your own conclusions. I'm proud of ya!James DuHamel
*Yeah... on an album with a picture of him with a black eye?? GreaT stuff!!And all the rest of that list... Pink, Metheny, Jarrett, Waterboys, Sandy Denny...this guys been flippin through my collection, except for the outback onei Careful with that axe Eugene!!-pm

Agreed on the Who. Won't Get Fooled Again is in the running for best song ever.. Liked "My Wife" a lot too.
Liked Quadrophenia and Live at Leeds too.
Agree with you on Tull too. One of my favorite songs of all time is Tull, it goes "be grateful my son for what you get. No you can't borrow that, cause that's for the races and doesn't grow on trees" Can't remember the name of it though. Liked early Tull until about "Brick" then Anderson seemed to want to be too pop and they lost me.
How about Cream?

Hey guys, remember the cat named Clapton? Need I say more?
*
I really enjoy Clapton. I have several of his albums/CD's. He has a lot of very good stuff. I particularly like
i From The Cradle.
But I just don't think any
i album/CD
he has done is a top five all time issue. That last thing (
i Pilgrim
) really sucked. His worst ever.
But I could be wrong.
Rich Beckman
*Yeah but three albums with Cream make all his bad stuff forgiveable. i Disraelli Gears and i Wheels of Fireare two of my all time favs . . too bad he didn't retire after i Badge.IMNSHO i All his good stuff since Cream could be distilled into one album.. . but it would be a good one.-pm
*Ahhhhh, a new thread concept...Your favorite fantasy CD/album of all time. For example, John Lennen's Double Fantasy reduced to Single Fantasy, short but great.Rich Beckman
*Well okay, but how about going the other way... a best of double albumI'd like to combine all my favourite Dylan electric stuff from the mid 60's ... Highway 61, Blonde on Blonde, and a couple of others whose titles I've forgotten onto one double album. I have the i double best of they put out, but they left off many of my favs and included stuff I could pass on.-pm
*Clapton would have to go down as one of the all time greats. Diverse as hell. "461 Ocean Boulevard" was I think his first "soft" album and I about wore the grooves off that one too. But I agree, all the Cream albums were great.
*Patrick M, A guy like Eric Clapton really doesn't need to be defended by some "bent nail" like me, but here goes. If Mr. Clapton would have retired in 1969 as you have suggested, the world would have missed out on a lot of good music. You seem to prefer his upbeat-blues oriented rock & roll and rightfully so. But there was life and/or rock after Cream. His first self-titled, 461 Ocean Blvd, EC Was Here, Journeyman, Layla just to name a few. I was lucky enough to see Cream perform live, but consider catching one of the three shows that Duane Allman played with Clapton on his Dominos tour to be one of the best concert I've ever seen. And that was 1970. To Rick Beckmon, If you like From the Cradle, might I suggest Blues, which he put out in 1999. Thirty years after he was over the hill.
*ShakeyI clean forgot about Derek and the Dominoes and also Blind Faith(love that one) and his first solo album with "Let It Rain"... but ya gotta admit there's been an awful lot of lame stuff since then, with the odd nuggett thrown in.. . maybe one per album. .. still think a best of from the post Dominoes would be a one disc album.. . but as I did say, a good one!!-pm
*5) Bill Monroe greatest hits4) Conway Twitty Silver Anniversary3) George Strait Latest Greatest Stratiest2) Hank Williams Jr..Whiskey Bent and Hellbound1) Hank Williams Sr....40 Greatest Hits
*Patrick M. To be honest with ya, in many cases I tend to favor the earliest works an artist puts out. I'm comming up with a block for examples, but I prefer the first five albums by Steve Miller as to his "hits" of later years. Definitely true to Elton John first couple as oppose to his later works starting with sh*t like Crocodile Rock. There's even been a few, very few, albums by Neil Young that I don't consider as favorites. But that's just my opinion, and you got yours, and that's okay with me.
*Well, I gotta agree with that. It is the rare artist indeed that doesn't do their best work early. The only two notable exceptions I can think of off the top of my head are Paul Simon and The Beatles (of course, one could say that John, Paul, George, and Ringo did their best work early as The Beatles).Rich Beckman

It should be easier to pick your 5 top albums than it was for songs.
1. Abbey Road - the Beatles
2. Physical Graffiti - Led Zeppelin
3. Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd (or The Wall)
4. White Album - Beatles
5. You are what you is (or Overnite Sensation) - Frank Zappa
*The top five ROCK albums? If so, here are my choices today. They'll be different tomorrow.Led Zepplin 1Jimi Hendrix "Axis Bold as Love"Alice in Chains "Dirt"Rush "2112"Soundgarden "Superunknown"
