Sort of a belated Xmas gift to myself. Did a friend a favor and refused to accept money, which I guess I knew was starting a battle of wills. He gave me a $300 HD gift card. I debated getting something I needed like a new cordless drill but decided I merited a pick me up so…
Got
The Rigid Sea Snake. What a cooooooool toy/tool. Image quality is great and I can see all kinds of times where knowing “what the h*ll are we hitting/snagged on/about to open up” will come in handy. Nice build quality, lots of neato factor… I’d give it an A+.
The FatMax laser distance finder (not the ultrasonic). I’ve been kicking around a Leica, but frankly A) they seem to have many features I’m not looking for, B) I don’t think I really need 1/16 accuracy for my application and C) I’m not positive I won’t beat the
out of it. So for 100 bucks I thought I’d try it.&
#160; Didn’t realize till I got it home that it is made by or incorporates Leica innards. Tested it against a tape and seems more than accurate enough for my needs and if i gets wet/dropped/stolen I won’t cry a huge river. Nice feel, seems like a quality tool.

I bought the Ridgid SeeSnake a few weeks ago. Fifteen years ago I watched engineers use boroscopes on mechanical equipment at the power plant and have lusted after one since. This is the most economical, half-way decent tool available, and can't wait to put it to use. The picture is pretty clear, but it could use a longer reach, I think.
I've had the Stanley laser measurement tool for over 2 years and use it whenever I go on estimating trips. It beats have the HO hold the end of a tape, and impresses them as well.

Apparently you can get extensions for it, although I think the 3ft that comes with it is adequate for my needs. I have to say for the bucks I was really impressed with the image. Not like you're gonna frame anything from it but I could tell exactly what I was looking at...
Glad to hear you like the Stanley, sadly I have a little hesitation when I buy their stuff these days but it looks and feels solidly built.PaulB
I could have used one recently when I was hunting for a toothbrush.

I bought one to do a surround speaker install a few months ago.Came in handy and the jog payed for it.One thing that happens - it very easily gets twisted so that the image is not right side up. makes it difficult to know what you are seeing..There's a imprinted triangle on the end of the scope - that is the "top" of the image. When you set it up to use - gently rotate the flexible neck so that the arrow is oriented to how you want to see.Saves a bit frustration.Handy as heck tool though, I could see having one extra 3' extension.JT
I've heard of them and always been curious. Thanks.
