All I really wanted to do was put 1″ XPS and FC siding on this wall! Unfortunately I’m bogged down trying to figure out how best to waterproof this area–which clearly has been a problem in the past.
Behind (this portion) of the wall on the left, are stairs, to a tiny (non-conditioned) basement with furnace. On the right is the storm cellar door. At the top of the pic is a vent for the storm cellar. The hose bib I will completely remove, as it’s in a poor position.
The problem: The sheathing, and theoretically the XPS and new siding extend below the level of the concrete that’s there. I’ve chippped out quite a bit of concrete (cracked) that was there, and which had extended up a row or two on the old 3 1/2″ clapboards–quite rotten.
Should I pour new concrete directly against the sheathing, making it slightly higher than the level across from it on the cellar? Run the XPS down to the bottom of the sheathing and then pour the concrete against that? Keep chipping? <G> Other?
Appreciate your suggestions. Thanks.
