Hoping maybe a few masonry buffs can help me find a specialty Item. The tool is called a “brick splitter” and goes by another name of “elmers helper”, no kidding! It resembles a small arbor press, has no external power source other than a stout grip. It works by pulling down on a lever which has a small cam with gear teeth that rides the vertical teeth on the frame of the tool. The tool works by providing pressure on a chisel edge down on top of the brick which also has a chisel edge underneath it. Snaps off the cleanest joints you ever saw, and is extremely handy when workspace is at a minimum, (like on a scaffold, building a chimney). I tried all the Web-sites relating to masonry tools but got all power tools and wetsaws. Any Input would be greatly appreciated, Thanx, Jon Jordan.

Jon:
I have had one for over 23 yrs, (about that long, me thinks) Its called "Elmers little midget helper". I've seen them advertized somewhere recently. Maybe it was tool crib of the North? Try "Bon Tool Company" they have masonry tools. They do make a bigger size, not sure of the name of that one. It's about half the cost of a diamond blade, and much faster with little or no noise and dust. Not too sure how politically correct the name is, but you can try a search and seems like you should find one.
Nope won't sell mine.
Keep trying.

I have the catalog in front of me and yo are looking at about 650 for the 6"x9" opening and 1500 for the 8-1/4"x18" opening.
*Yes, I've seen these. Looks like a mini guillotine. How well do they work on (brick) pavers? Concrete pavers? Thanks
