If all you want is to know is how accurate the level is, just shoot 2 points that you are in a line with, about 30 or 40 feet apart. Then go to the opposite side of those fixed points and sight again. The difference between the measurements is the accuracy of your instrument. Ie: if you set up 100 ft away and you sighted points with a 1/4 discrepency then thats what it is +- 1/4 in 100ft. By the way 1/8 or so over 100ft is about all you can reasonably expect in the real world.
