Whats the reaction to this situation , replaced 2 out of 4 rotted posts on a front porch because of a heavy ice storms weight one fine winter day on my friends house with treated 6 x 6’s, I told him we would re-assess it in spring [ the original house builder wrapped 2 – 2 x4 s’ with pine that does’nt last to long in this area] 2 of the remaining posts were in perfect shape because they were protected, so in spring we looked at the situation and decided to wrap the posts with aluminum to match the widths of the others posts. Some of you guys are probably saying, noooooo!. So in 2 winters the aluminum is braking down and reacting with the new chemicals of the treated lumber. Should we take off the aluminum and with a ”kilts”type of paint and re-wrap the posts or is there something else we can do to just work with the new posts to keep them the same thickness?
Thanks guys1

I would wrap the posts with tar paper and then aluminum.
exellent idea's thanks,
You need to separate the pressure treated from the alum but if you enclose the PT and it stays wet, could prematurely rot.
Felt paper is probably the best bet, i am thinking, maybe 30 lb.
Use stainless nails. The ACQ wood will eat alum nails for breakfast.
(Ideal would be to box out around it with PVC like azak or equiv but i dont know budget.)
Thanks for the tips can't wrap with anything else of a thickness have to match existing posts, tar paper sounds good!
It is because in the presence of water, the copper in the PT has an electolitic reaction with lesser metals, so you should also check fasteners. Only double dip hot galvanized or stainless steel work with this ACQ PT lumber.

Thanks for the help
You could wrap the post in copper. Maybe not what you're looking for, but it would likely work better than the AL wrap isolated from the 4x4 post.

One thing you could do to is just use regular spf. Put a 3.5in pt. block on the bottom, or wrap the bottom with ice and water. I think it's been said, but the acq is only supposed to react when wet. As far as fasteners go I would say use a stainless steel.
Stainless steel flashing rolls isn't horribly expensive. Is there a possibility that would do the trick?
Iam sure you can not get that at mr.big box store ,or even ''84'' where should I go for this type of sheet material and can you get it white?
The rolls I got at Home Compost were several feet long and about nine inches wide. Another thing I used for a project were rolls of vinyl. Good heavy duty stuff. That should be available next to the rolls of aluminum, galvanized and stainless flashing.
You could wrap with this. http://www.alumapole.com/protrimmain.html
