I am building a deck for a customer that is roughly 24’x24′, 1′ off of the ground, and will use 5/4″x6″ Trex decking. Because it is so close to the ground local does not require a railing.
As a means of increasing profit, and providing a sense of enlosure, I would like to offer the customer several different options and configurations in terms of built-in benches and/or planters. Are there any special considerations when using trex as the primary material in the construction of these items? Must they use a p.t. wood carcasss as a frame to build around? Any good books or resources that you know of that address this?
Thanks,

Trex is not structural. Any stuctural components, including the framework of your builtins must be done of something else, like pressure treated lumber.
Because Trex sags easily, too, when use for a seating surface the supports must be closely spaced. Something like 12" apart would be good.
