I am having my basement finished and noticed the contractor has not trimmed out the inside of the closed door openings. I have always seen openings trimmed out on both sides. My contract doesn’t say anything about trim. How hard can I fight on this? Are there accepted carpentry procedures or anything I can refer to? Thanks.

Is there even drywall returning around the jamb and into the closet?
Although we trim our closets the same as anywhere else on our jobs, I can't help but thinking that it is a waste to cope the joints in the base.
How much time are you planning on spending in the closets admiring your trim?
Tom
*Chalk this one up to experience, and learn from it.NEXT TIME... make absolutely sure all of your questions like this are answered BEFORE any work begins. Make sure your contract states specifically what is to be done, and how much it will cost. If trim wasn't listed in the scope of work, and he doesn't feel like installing it, then you don't have a leg to stand on. Talk to the contractor and see what can be worked out. Some contractors feel that the interior of a closet doesn't require trim or finishing, while others do. This is something that should have been brought up long before now. You should have gotten all of the specifics in writing, then held the contractor to the contract. If he is a good contractor, he will do all of the items in the scope of work section, and then some.James DuHamel
*The true sign of a get-your-money-and-run contractor..don't sign the final draw until he does it right... IF the closets finished (drywalled)that is, sometimes in a basement a utility room or something like that is left unfinished....shoulda had something in writing.
*Closet = little room. Complete with drywall, base and door trim.
*A few years back, one of my friends who was also a trim carpenter got into a time crunch. He had a crusty old timer working for him full time, and he asked me to come work with him for a few days to finish a house. It was a production job, and I wasn't too sure about his standards, so when I got to the inside of my first closet, I shouted out, "How good a job do you want me to do trimming the inside of the closets?" Before my friend could answer, the old timer yelled back, "So it don't fall off the wall."Andy
*thanks all, got the contractor to take care of it
*"So it don't fall off the wall".... Gonna' have to remember that. Sam
