I was wondering if anyone has any coments to make about about the new Festool MFK 700 EQ trim router? I noticied it cuts both vertically as well as horizontally. This would really be great for trimming straight grain wood trim on plywood edges. I recently used my Bosch Colt with large base & dust extraction port to cut 1/16″ excess off a face frame I installed on a bookcase I’m building. Since the wood is cherry and I was working on a 2″ stile, I was concerned about tearout and stability. With short climbing cuts, the large base and Freud’s three flute flush trim bit, the results exceeded my expectations. The dust extraction port was plugged with chips, but other than that, it went perfectly. The cut was so smooth, very little sanding was needed.

Well since it has not been released yet nobody here will be able to give you any first hand feedback. But the reviews I have read say it's the cats meow.

An enterprising fellow here in town just started up a Festool franchise about a year ago. He's lent out any number of tools for my evaluation on projects and so on. In return; I give him detailed information on their use in pictures & text in presentation folders, also physical examples of what can be done with them. As you might expect, it's been a fun relationship. He told me the other day; "your selling my tools for me", a nice compliment. Lately, there has been a lot of development in trim routers, the dealer told me he heard that an ex Bosch engineer had collaborated with Festool on this latest offering. I can't wait to get my mitts on this one!

Actually, I have gotten to use one, since even though they're not released to the public yet, some dealers have gotten a demo in. (And I work for one now, so thats how I got to use it)
And out of the three new offerings, its the only one I'll probably buy. It is very versatile, and it works, in every configuration, pretty much like you'd expect coming from Festool. And it better for the price. The auxillary bases all have very positive locking mechanisms and tenth of a mm fine tune adjustment.
Very smooth, no runout or chatter. A lot of options for accessories.
That being said, like the rest of their wares, its not something that your average weekender is going to even think about. Its $510 for the basic setup. You'll notice if you read up on it, 700 watts, so no mongo horsepower, and the "stroke" - really the ability to move the collet relative to the base, is only 14mm. You won't run any large bits in it, and theres no baseplate option which would allow you to exceed a bit over an inch in diameter, intentionally. But for the niche it was built for, its going to be a pretty popular item I'm pretty sure.
