Just curious…I went to my local “Woodworkers Warehouse” (chain store, aprox. 100 strong) today to compare and purchase a new roofing nailer. To my dismay they no longer carry Bostitch tools. (Nor Senco) When I inquired as to why they no longer sell one of the top manufacturers tools, I was given the excuse that neither Bostitch nor Senco are very good about honoring tools returned that are deemed defective. I was upset because although I could have gone right next door to the HD and purchased one off the shelf, I choose not to give them my business. I would also be able to purchase one from my local hardware store or lumber yard, but neither stock these types of tools and I`d have to order one and wait.
Have any of you found similar problems?
I will probably end up ordering one from Tool Crib (Amazon.com), as I will end up saving quite a bit of money.

As much as you might not want to buy there, HD has probably the best retrun policy I've seen. I've purchased from them, amazon.com(tool crib) northern tool, etc and alot from my small local lumberyard and upon any defects or problems, HD is about the only one who takes the return and gives me a new one no problem. Mail order you have to get return authorization and ship it and forget taking it back to the local mom and pop places.
No one seems to like the big boxes here but I have to admit, they've always treated me very well with any problem I've ever had especially with tools.
Now I am in there every other day so they all know me by name and maybe thats a difference but they do serve my need.

I'd ditto Jeff's comments about Amazon's shipping. If you take the free shipping (anything over $99), you can't track the order. I've always gotten my stuff (takes about a week) but one time they sent it UPS even though the shipping address was my PO Box. The last 3 times they said it was sent UPS even though it was sent USPS. If you have it sent to a street address it will help as will their standard or better shipping, pretty inexpensive but not free but you can track it. Next time I may try what Jeff does. I can't vouch for their return policy because (knock on wood) I haven't had to use it. Most of the recon stuff is a very good deal and they still carry the full manufacturer's warranty. Every item I've gotten looks new and works fine. Definitely worth a look. Jeff, How do ya like the Bosch bulldog?
Loving the BullDog. Except for the fact I got it recond from TC for $199...and now it's sale price is on sale for $189. That $10 is killing me!
Have used a three postitions...drill/hammer drill/chipper........works great. Even have mixed a bunch of buckets of thinset to perfection. Two thumbs up...especially for the price.....wish I'd have bought it years ago instead of trying to push masonary bits thru with the smaller so-called hammer drills. Got to agree with that about HD return policy. Friend of mine is a pallet supplier and rebuilder and started out with Rigid chopsaws from HD. He wore them out at the rate of about two a month and would just go exchange them. They knew exactly what the end use was and didn't question it. After nearly a year, they suggected he switch to Makita and gave him full credit for the Rigid saws. Even replaced a couple of Makitas before they finally said he was on his own.
Mike not anymore at least around here. Now they want a reciept and wont accept a tool after 90 days. i brought a rotozip back and they told me they wouldnt replace it after 30 days . Id have to take it to the manufacturer for repair or replacement. a guy told me today that Home dildo is onna start charging a restocking fee. i dont know about that for sure( didnt see it in writing myself) but I was told that today. At Home Depot it all seems to depend on who you get, what mood they are in, and your ability to appy the proper amount of what I call "Jedi Mind Trick" I have had so many "official" versions of their return policy quoted to me by assorted employees that I am convinced that it is written on an Etch-A -Sketch and shaken up every other day.
WOW any one else notice a constent theme on this thread????????????
I don't buy tools from Home Depot and can honestly say I have not had to return a single one.
Does this mean that if I should purchase one there I should expect to return it? But with no problems?
Sorry but time is money and I don't have any to spare standing in a return line.
I buy most all my stuff from Tool Crib. Went thru the amazon site once and had a hell of a time tracking the order. Might have been just a one time deal...but I didn't try twice to find out.
At the time...and still now as far as I know.....while Tool Crib and amazon are joined at the hip....they still run seperate shipping operations. So now...after confering with the chick at Tool Crib....I'll check the prices on line at amazon......and I usually try to find what I'm looking for reconditioned......then I turn off the computer and open the tool crib catalog. They still have a number direct to tool crib.......unless it's an amazonscam I'm falling for.....and I order the tool thru the tool crib.
Haven't gone so far as to double check thru the amazon site to see if I can track shipping there after ordering thru TC's catalog number.
I've only had to return one tool......a table saw with a bent table......at first they wanted me to return it ..then they'd ship the new one out....but I bitched enough they decided to let the two saws cross each other in shipping. I think we decided to put a hold on my credit card in the event I forgot to send the first one back. I do know they quick shipped the second one for the regular shipping price....one again.....proper yelling techinique was applied to get this offer as well!
At the moment...Tool Crib has some great deals on reconditioned and other tools for fathers day. Just flipping thru the new catalog last nite. Jeff
