I recently bought a 07 Ford F150 longbed, and I want to add a lumber/ladder rack. I would appreciate any input. Also, any bad or good experiences I can learn from.
Thanks
Drake

Skim-coating with joint compound covers texture, renews old drywall and plaster, and leaves smooth surfaces ready to paint.

I've got System One racks and IMO, they're the best racks available. They're rock solid and the integral tie-down winch system is unbeatable. I couldn't be happier with them. Not bad to look at either if that matters to you any.
That being said, I have read others who complain about them. The main gripe seems to be that it's too much work to remove the rear crossbar if you need to have the bed loaded by a forklift or something..... like if you're picking up a pallet shingles or redi-mix or something. I get deliveries for stuff like that myself, so it hasn't been an issue, and further I don't find it to be that much of a PIA to remove the crossbar anyway.
I've also owned Kargo Master racks as well as Trac Rac. My personal opinion was that Trac Rac is overpriced for what you get, but they do look nice if you're into that sort of thing. The Kargo Master racks were a true workhorse too. No frills and you could carry a tank up there with them.
they whistle as you go down the road

I had this one welded up for 400.00. I love it. I still need to paint it. All 1.25" tube, and braced to carry an aircraft carrier!

Had mine custom made. I found it the most cost effective and I had it made the way I wanted. (the right hieght, light weight material, colour, shape, tie downs were I wanted them etc.) It turned out great. It took them about three hours to make. I painted it myself. They charged me material only and we are trading labour. $160.00 in material spent.

I also have the System One and think it's great. The two big things about it are aluminum doesn't rust and it doesn't weigh a lot, so you are not carrying around a lot of dead weight. Also there are a whole bunch of accessories you can add on.
Hey man I got the weather guard racks. This set without the side rails cost about $600.00 but the side rails are another $600.00 Not so bad so far. I like them and they look really good. Hey diesel how bout them truck pics. I appreciate it thanks alot.
Are you a right coast or left coast kind of guy? For the left coasters there is McWelco Truck Racks based in lovely Hesperia California. I have been using their racks since 1979, really good stuff with lots of custom touches available. Surprisingly they can be found on the web at mcwelco.com.
