Hi all:
I’m sure this has come up in the past many times, but was looking for recommendations on re-finishing products for a cast -iron tub. I have an HVLP set-up and was planning on doing the work myself. Although I’ve never done a tub before, I have done a lot of furniture finishing and I think the same principles apply here.
Basically looking for product recommendations and advice on things to look out for. If you have a strong recommendation for a tub re-finisher in the NY tri-state area I would entertain the idea of having a professional do the work. One less thing for me to worry about. I have heard nightmare stories and I’m defintitely of the “if you want something done right, do it yourself” school.
Thanks for any input…

Sean,
There are good refinishers, and bad refinishers. Like all other trades, if you hire someone and want to know about their quality of work, have them give you references, and then go check out their work.
On the DIY side, I have seen good jobs, fair jobs, and really bad jobs. And it is not like refinishing furniture. If you have the skills needed, the patience, and the time, try it on something else first (an old sink from the junk yard for example). Then if you feel comfortable about the quality level of the work, give the tub a shot.
Just my humble opinion...

I'm on LI in NY. Want to do the same thing myself on a claw foot tub that came with my circa:1680 house so I'll be interested in hearing answers here as to DIY.
I have a Fuji sprayer and I'm pretty sure it can handle the task but no idea of the process.
I already got prices that averaged out at about $500.
Be well
