I am finishing up a job that the floor is a modified pattern (4×4, 4×2, 2×2) mounted onto 12×12 mesh. the grout lines are around a heavy 1/16″ and the stone is tumbled, unfilled. The counter top and tub deck are 4×4 and grout lines are done approx 1/16″ to match. Material will be grout filled
The question has come up to whether to use sanded or unsanded. One friend says one and the other says the opposite. Both have good reasoning.
As for the sanded grout, the reason given is that the corners are rounded and those areas exceed 1/8″ and the unsanded will shrink and crack.
The reasoning for using unsanded is that the 1/16″ joints are too tight for sanded.
What is the “proper” way of dealing with this??
While I’m posting this, would you recommend using miracle 511 as a preseal before grouting? Another beat the dead horse question…
Thanks in advance, brian
