twist on Engler’s basement insulation?
I have an unfinished basement in which I’d like to use Engler’s EPS technique. Problem is Building Dept. required the studs/fiberglass/plastic combo installed at end of construction. Rather than tearing out the studs, I was thinking of using EPS thin enough to slip between the studs and basement walls, glue and tape, and reuse the existing FG for added insulation.
Figure I could get the vapor permeability of a EPS shell, save myself the redo work, and use the FG I already paid for.
Anyone see a problem with this? Thanks.

Andy's my man, don't be dissin' his fine Andy Engle name.<g>
Your building dept forced you to use the worst type of insulation? Man, normally they can be reasoned with. Especially after showing them Andy's article. Most towns have a provision for "alternative methods" in their building code.
I'd want 2" of EPS on the walls. If you can get that, great. But I'd leave the FG in place since I consider it to be pretty much disposable.

DOH!2" EPS can't fit between the existing studs and the concrete :(
Look at these. This is where Andy designs can from.I am not sure, but I think that they mention your combination.http://www.buildingscienceconsulting.com/resources/foundations/default.htmhttp://www.buildingscience.com/directsearch/search?SearchableText=basement&submit=Search

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
Thanks Bill. I found it in one of the docs.
