I’m siding a shed behind our house with redwood and cedar siding. Two questions:
1. BACKPRIMING: I’m using oil-base primer on the show face of the siding, to prevent bleed-through. Latex primer is a lot cheaper around here, and I’m thinking to use it for the backpriming of the boards. Is there any reason this wouldn’t work?
2. BUTT VS. MITERED JOINTS: Our house is an 1890 Queen Anne, with tankhouse (watertower) behind. California practice with these is to install the rustic siding boards, then nail frieze and corner boards on top of the siding. Some of the frieze boards are mitered at outside corners, and some are butt joined. What are the tradeoffs?
