Very nice looking!  Can you show more pics and talk about the construction?

      You sure you didn't forget to put up a section of the fence somewhere?  ;)

    What price would something like this be sold at?

      More than you can afford.

        I was thinking of whisky barrels that only get used once then wholesaled off by the truckload.

          I came across a website once that sold used wholesale olive and pickel barrels for rain barrels. They were plastic, but not bad looking actually.

          1. rez | Oct 15, 2006 06:18pm | #7

            The whisky barrels are charred oak and can only be used once making the liq.

            Sometimes not all the barrels were completely empty when they would ship them out and we would be pleasently surprised to be able to drain a cup here and there.

            be from here to there... eventually

    I bought one from the city for $75 CND but the city is subsidsing them by 50% so they must be buying them for $150 CND.

    It isn't as nice looking as yours - this is a pvc unit - but as the lots in the city are quite small it is nice that the unit is a half barrel and can fit up against the side of the house. It also has all the hose connections, one for draining for wintering, one for overflow and finally one for your hose connection.

    Plants seemed to like the water. The water barrel also helps to decrease the temperature of the water that leaves the barrel on overflow and makes the fish in the streams happier. Not sure if I'd use the water on plants that are producing produce as my roof is ashfault and I likely have lead flashing - two things I'd like to avoid eating. I've been thinking about putting in a rain garden but it is fairly low on my list of things to do at the moment.

    one thing you can do to make them even tighter ,is to hammer a piece of wire in to the edge of each board pull the wire out leaving a grove plane the edge down to the bottom of the grove and glue them together when the water starts to work its way in to the wood it will swell the wood fibers were you compressed them The wire neads to be about 3/16

      <hammer a piece of wire in>

      That's a cool tip!
