I am going to install 2 1/4 ” strip hardwood flooring. The sub-floor is uneven with as much as 3/4 ” low spots. I will install sleepers over the sub-floor. What is the best way to fill the voids and attach the sleepers to the sub-floor so I will not have squeaks in the future?

Don,
Why are you going to install sleepers?
Rich
*I need to level the floor.
*Don,How out of level is the floor over the length and width of the room?Rich
*Rich; The area to be done is about 1700 sq.ft.The floor joists are uneven so the sub-floor has high and low spots.Don
*Don,I've seen few perfect subfloors. A 3/4" high or low spot here or there is common even on some new construction. I can usually see the worst of the areas on a walk thru and float floor leveler over large depressions. High spots I'll usually knock down with the drum sander (like a bad joint between sheets of ply). Paper it in and start the floor build. Nails or staples should be placed no more than 10 to 12 inches apart and one inch from the ends. Most floors squeak because of improper nailing. When you say the floor joists are uneven, do you mean valleys between the joists? Or crowns? What type of subfloor do you have? Is the subfloor undersized? What are your joist centers? New or older construction?Rich
*Rich,House is new ( 2 years ) construction, joists are Doug Fir 16" OC, sub-floor is 3/4" chip board. I have some crowns and some valleys. The worst high spot is where there is a glue-lam between the DF joists. What type of leveler do you suggest? What paper do you use?ThanksDon
*Don,Go to your local Home Depot and ask for floor leveler primer, and self leveling floor leveler. Probobly find a brand like Jasco. Follow instructions on label. I always use 15# felt paper, it's better than plain old rosin paper. The thickness helps act like a gasket, and it helps retard moisture migration from below.Good luck,Rich
*Rich,Sounds like the way to go.Thanks a lot for your help.Don
