We have a 40+ year old house. It was originally lath and plaster but the additions are drywall and some previously exterior walls are pretty rough stucco. The drywall and stucco are fine but the plaster has cracked in the ceiling some and flaked off in places. I would love to find one product to cover all three types of surfaces. I want it smooth, possibly steel troweled, integrally colored a soft darkish cream color and it needs to stand up to lots of cleaning because we have 4 kids, three cats, several rabbits and always a dog. Any ideas? I want to do it myself. I have hung, taped and textured drywall, and like the results. I have also replastered the flaking and cracks, but I am not a professional. Thank you for your time and interest.

After you skim coat everything, the next step that you will take will involve finishing the walls. Will you be painting them? And if so I'd like to know what type of primer you are using.
I've a 110 year old home with exceptional plaster walls. The walls were covered with paper, which I had removed, but there was raw plaster underneath. I scrubbed any remaining paste off and have primed some with oil based KILZ, then used latex paint. I dont feel there is a very strong bond between the layers.
Please let me know what you use to unify your walls, and finish them.
