Unvented roof assmblies in WA

In Washington, according to the local icynene installer the state energy department has over written the IRC code that allows unvented roof assemblies.
Here is his response to my email asking how to get around this.
“The 2006 IRC does allow this practice however it specifically was stricken by the WA State Energy Code officials. Why? Who knows.”
I want to discuss it with my building inspector. I would like as much information as possible to assist in convincing him to allow me to proceed. I have a very difficult parapet to vent and am worried that my venting (which will pass code) does not work properly.

Check out buildingscience.com, also depending how it goes and what is allowed in your area, maybe get a waiver from him. I would also talk to icynene, they probably have dealt with this from WA if it is a state policy.

I wopuld have no proiblem going unvented with polyurethyne insulation, but not with icy. It has been known to hold and soak up moisture.
From all I have heard, too many of the claims made for icy foam are based on testing done with poly and then assumed to apply equally to the open celled foams. it ain't quite so....

That is the only national Brand name I know. They have done most of the widely accepted research and have done a lot to get the unvented process accepted. Direct contact to them may help and getting their white paper/ book, Walls That Work may benefit you
