I have some connections on foil backed flex duct that I would like to seal with RCD #6. What do I need to know to do this properly?

FredL,
I believe the brand name is QuietFlex and that my installer installed it poorly. It is flexible foil backed reinforced with cross strings making it hard to tear and has the inner helical wire. Anyway, he has an eight inch section that he connected a wye to that branches to two six inches. He used duct tape that I asked him not to use and then used the zip strip on the outside. If I smear the mastic all over this connection should it hold? Or will the duct tape inside fail to the point where everything will come apart?
Thanks,
Brian
