We are planning to insulate our 2nd floor roof interior (ceiling) with high density rigid foam. The rafters are 2×12, and we will be putting 8″ of insulation between each rafter. We’d like to leave the last 3 1/2″ of rafter exposed. Instead of hanging drywall could we apply a finish directly to the face of the rigid foam?
