Hello,
I’ve decked my back (covered) porch with 5/4 white oak (wo) [screwed and plugged]. Also wo posts, rails, steps.
I like a natural finish, but would like something that is also uv protective so it will retain it’s natural color (areas uncovered such as the steps are already very dark grey). I plan on pressure washing first then applying the finish. I’ve used Thompsons Water seal, but I don’t think it is UV protective. One other thing: on past decks, I’ve pressure washed avery other year and re-sealed, so I am expecting that there will be maintenance for whatever finish I use.
Thanks,
Roger
BTW: I’m custom making/instaling walnut trim [sort of Federal style] for windows and doors [interior], so I hope to be posting pictures soon.

I used Superdeck for my cedar siding but am now sold on Penofin products.
FWIW, Thompsons is junk
Another product to look at is Sikkens Deck Oil.
Third vote for Penofin - although I've only used it on cedar, not white oak.
HD carried it a few years ago, and I got 3 small drums (5 gal) for $20 each when they closed it out...
One caution is that you might need to rough filter it before running it through a deck sprayer (even one of those cheap hand pressure type $20 - $30 spray cans) - I had two cans of Pen. with enough solids in it to give my sprayer a stroke. We were spraying with a brush down because we were doing a deck and a fence. The stuff is an irritant, so watch out and wear a filter or stay upwind if you do decide to spray.
