Vapor barrier between ply and cement?
I’m going to tile my 1/2 bath. It’s my first time tiling. I will have a new 3/4″ plywood subfloor. I also plan on putting down an cement backer board.
Do I need to put anything down between the plywood and cement backer board? The whole room is 3×5 so I can pretty much lay one board to cover the whole floor. I was concerned with moisture damage to ply floor being in direct contact with the cement board.

you can screw the cement backerboard straight to the subfloor. no worries.
You don't need felt and you can install CBU directly on the sub-floor. It needs to be installed over thinset to fully support the CBU.
If you are concerned about water then you can use a water proof membrain, such as Detra, instead of the CBU.
No need for 1/2 bath, but might be usual in a kids bathroom.

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
