I just had open cell icynene spray foam insulation installed in my home. The installers are recommending a primer that is a vapor barrier. I know my inspector is giong to want to see 6 Mil. poly. I’d prefer to do the primer. I’ve looked in my wisconsin UDC and can’t find anything regarding a specific need for a vapor barrier. Do any of you know of a code/comm# which refers to this?

Why don't you call the installer and ask him what to tell the Inspector? It's his idea, must have an answer.
Or Not.

Buildingscience.com has information on this, but I don't know that it's in the code books yet. Technically it's "vapor retarder," not "barrier," and it's better than poly because moisture that does get in can bet back out again over time.
Did you see Comm 22.22? That's the primary reference for vapor retarders.
