Hello,
I am installing 6 mil sheeting in my dirt crawl space and wanted to run it up the foundation wall. I started using polyurethane construction adhesive to glue it to the wall, but it is not holding well. Is there a better way?
I am also temporarily holding it with staples to the sill plate, but wanted a sealed connection.
Also, what does one use to seam the pieces of visqueen together?
Thank you,
W

You can get polyethylene tape to seam it together with. It's tough and stays stuck. I got it at ACE Hardware. About $10.
In some areas, it is not smart to run the barrier all the way up to the sill. Doing so reduces or eliminates the possibility of inspecting properly for trermites and other vermin.
Politics is the antithesis of problem solving.
I had read about that. I don't think termites are too common here, but I had planned to cut the sheeting off the sill plate anyways after it was glued properly to the foundation. All the directions I have read for adding vapor barrier suggest running it a foot or so up the wall, but none of the directions say what to secure it with.
wilf,
We once built a crawlspace with a vapor barrie on grade, run it up the wall a foot or so and then glued 2 inches of foam to the wall, covering the plastic. Was that perfectly vapor proof? Not sure, but had to be pretty darn good.
I believe many posters here will argue in favor of a "conditioned space" crawl space, which means in part that the floor is not insulated. It means the walls are insulated, whcih would fit the model I described above.
I am sure others could talk about the venting or non-venting issues involved.
That is pretty much exactly what I want to do. Did you use spray foam or the rigid sheets?Part of the reason I want a secure connection for the visqueen is so the sheets have a solid connection to stick to as well. Was your crawl space significantly higher than one foot?I am sealing my vents (along with the dirt)
We used foam sheets. SO it was easy to glue them up over the plastic vapor barrier laped up the wall.
The crawlspace was about 3 feet deep, two feet below grade, one above.
What do you mean you are sealing your dirt?
By sealing the dirt, I just meant laying down the visqueen vapor barrier.
