I am installing 2 new baths in my house. A 3/4 in the basement, and a 1/2 directly above. I have purchased ceiling exhaust fans for each. My question: Can I connect the two vents and run one pipe through a cold air attic space then through the exterior wall? I am considering using lightweight plastic sewer pipe or flexible aluminum pipe. The fans have 3″ outlets. Should I transition to 4″ pipe? Do I need some sort of damper to act as a check valve to keep the air from the “middle” fan going out instead of down to the basement fan? I will insulate the pipe in the cold air space, and pitch it down as it goes out.
Perhaps, I’m on the wrong track and should consider one fan in the attic space, pulling air from both baths?
Thanks
