In another forum a question was raised by someone with the handle of Botanist about the electrical connections to a Ventostat.

The question was not clear, but I think that they want to use it in a greenhouse.
It is a CO2 monitor/controller.
It seems that it’s main purpose is used on commercial HVAC to increase outside ventaltion when the building ocupuant cause the CO2 level to rise.
I am wonder if anyone has tried using some thing liek this in a home to control an HRV.

I use CO2 sensors/controllers in commercial applications, never in residential. The reason being is that the codes require mechancial ventialtion in non-residential spaces, and in all but the poorest sealed/insualted applications, the ventilation load is the dominant portion of the heating and cooling energy required. The reason they work well in this type of application is that there are expected to be enough people to significantly affect the level of CO2 in the space. In a residence, the occupancy is so light in comparison to the volume, you would seldom if ever trip the setpoint if set at a normal level. Timers are cheaper and more effective in ventilation applications that are not heavily occupied on a regular basis. In a greenhouse application, no benefit for the use of this device at all.
Thanks.I am not sure that they wanted to use it in a greenhouse. I was kinda guessing that. Here is what they said."I recently bought a Telaire Ventostat 8001 for my garden, and I have no idea where to start with the installation. There is a RJ45 cable going from the controller to a COM port on my computer, and I have that all set, I just don't know how to get it powered up. I was told it's basically like installing a thermostat, and I do have a doorbell transformer. The installation manual tells you how to mount it, but it just says "make necessary wire connections.""They may only want to use the computer to monitor the CO2 level.Or if it is a greenhouse they might want to use it to ADD CO2 and not reduce it as in building ventalation.
