We recently installed a shallow vessel sink in a master bath.It drains very slowly which appears to be because it is airlocking in the drain due to no overflow to let in any air.If I touch a straw to the grid strainer,it lets in air and drains just fine.Has anybody run across this problem and been able to come up with a way to solve it?
Thanks

How well is the plumbing vented?
Beer was created so carpenters wouldn't rule the world.
Vent appears to be fine.We put the new sink basically back where the old one was and it had worked well, but it was a normal sink with an overflow.
Typical problem lately with vessel sinks. My theory is the air trapped between the water level in the Ptrap and the strainer/bottom of the vessel sinkneeds some place to go since the overflow no longer exists..
(Some have overflows, spendy though)I have eased this problem by getting the Ptrap as close to the vanity top as possible, instead of down with extension tailpipe to the waste in the wall.Cut tailpipe short, install ptrap ( I found one that works, the correct shape rather)
A 90 into the wall waste pipe.Looks wierd, but as a side benny, it gives you more under-cab space without the Ptrap smack in the middle of the space.__________________________

Typical problem with grid strainers.
Since I mainly do commercial work, grid strainers are the norm with us.
Use a pipe cleaner & clean out every hole as much as possible, then put something over the grid to stop the water, & fill up the lav as much as possible. Then pul the stopper & let it drain.
Good luck------- I have one in my main bath problem comes & goes.

Had the same problem here , changed the strainer assembly with one that was less constricting and it's fine now. The first drain was a disk with holes the new one is a simple cross with four larger pie shaped holes. Hope you can find one.

I'll try to take a pic tomorrow and post it
