I have seen the vinyl coated, wood brick mold. Seems nice, at least nicer than primed wood.
Not sure about the life span of it.
no
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming

Forget the primal scream, just ROAR!!!
It doesn't rot. When painted, you can't tell the difference. I use more of the vinyl brickmold than the preprimed fingerjointed stuff. I looked for some solid brickmold a while back, with no luck. You get the FJ stuff, or the vinyl. Take your pick. (Around here, anyway.)

My yard has a brick mold that's cellular PVC- like Azek or Koma.
that's the one I used on my own home when the originals rotted.
great stuff. I've used it to replace rotted fj brick mould. It wont have to be changed out again.
along the same lines, azek drip cap is the way to go
