Could you use short Tapcons? That sounds like one of those "so labor intensive it ain't worth what I have to charge" items.
Thanks that was kind of what I came up with as far as labor intensive
How about masonry nails? That's what I used on my 1852 brick house.

In past siding jobs I've had room enough to add wood blown into the brick then attached my J channel to that and others where I used masonary nails and 100% silicone behind the channel. Real labor intensive. You might even try a nail gun with pins that have washers attached. Cut the washers to fit the channel and a light shot. I've done this as well once when I had two dozen windows to trim out. I used a grinder to cut the washers. It worked well. Good luck and charge em' right!

I'm not sure I'm reading this right. The wall is brick veneer and you want to put vinyl j along the top of the wall to hold the wall side of vinyl soffit panels? If this is your situation, I don't use vinyl j in this case. I figure out how far down the wall from the soffit my trim has to be in order to be level with the bottom of the facia. Then I bend a j on the brake with the bottom being wide enough to extend down the wall the necessary amount. Now I nail it right to the wood soffit instead of the masonry. Much less work but hard to describe. Hope this helps.

Ditto on what Richie said...attach the "J" to bottom of soffit not to masonry. Don't know your situation, but if you must attach a vinyl "J" channel to brick wall, you could use plastic, hollow wall anchors. They are cheaper than tapcons, but take the same amount of effort to install. They will hold just fine.

use coil stock to make a "L" and attach that to the wood soffit, tight against the brick, and down to a level that is 1/4" shy of the bottom of the "J" channel, then zip screw(3/8"-1/2" )the "J" to the aluminum at the head joints of the brick.(not every head, every 16-24" should be plenty)
