Anyone ever hear of a vinyl siding company named Royal Crest?
Samples say they are part of the Royal Building products.
Good/bad??
All comments appreciated.

I believe they are a canadian co. Used some of their products in the eary 90's. Nothing bad to report.
Samples looked nice the guy let me keep.
Lots of color choices.
He suggested that with a house like mine that is not like a cape that I should go with the 5 -5 tabs not the standard 4-4 tabs. Not sure if that makes a difference.
The only one that said so far that he would use 1/2" insulation and tyvek the entire house.

I wonder if Royal Sovereign roof shingles are also part of that group...I believe they are the economical choice at the home depots around here. Can't speak to their quality/performance, though.Justin Fink - FHB Editorial
I thought they were GAF?
I am not sure.

4/4 vs. 5/5
In my opinion i don't like 5/5.
Remember it covers 2 more in. each course. that is a time saver on each house.
I have installed probably 10000+ sqs. over the years, as such if I am the installer I love the 5/5. I even loved the6/6 that were once avalavble. What's on your house now? If you are happy with existing, use the same width again.
Unfortunately, current is 1970's aluminum. LOL!!!So, I guess I'm lucky in that I will have a clean slate to start with. I really wasn't sure about the 5/5 since I really haven't seen them on any houses near me or anywhere that I have been for that matter.I'm leaning on going with the 4/4. Something about the 5/5 just didn't strike me as wow gotta have it.Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it.Now I can strike one more thing off the list of materials to ask for.

I dont know bout soveigrn but I think GAF has a 4.5/ which is a nice look.
It is personal taste too so you have to be happy with the scale of the siding on the house.
Good Luck.
I lived in the Heights for a year before moving to Indian Mills. (Medford Lakes Area)
Nice part of the world
Hey there. Lived here for about 12 years now. Wife wants to add to the house now that we have a 1.5 year old. Like I said in the other post, the 5/5 really didn't say "buy me, hang me" My eye was focused on the 4/4. I thing the 4/4 on the house would look nice. Think the 5/5 while possibly looking nice would make the house stick out in the neighbor and not necessarily in the right way. This place is definitely a great place for advice and guidance. Haven't been steered wrong yet.Medford is a nice area. Problem over this way is the traffic.

Delete vinyl from your thinking and go with fiber cement.
You will not regret it. I've put lots of vinyl on rentals and after ten years wish I had spent a bit more and got it right the first time.
Just my $.02 worth.
Agreed.
Nix the vinyl and go with FC. It will set the house apart in a good way.
What do you estimate the price difference is?

50%
I haven't checked lately. But fiber cement has a 50 year warranty. I don't believe that vinyl will look good for 15. Spend the money now and never worry about it again.
BTW I prefer the primed and paint it myself with the recommended 100% acrylic paint. Paint on a concrete product stays a long time.
I did see that Menards has Certainteed fiber cement on sale - 8 1/4"
(7" exposed when installed)) at $5.77 per 12' piece.
