Hey all. I’m doing the siding on my house now. It consists of extruded polystyrene insulation (Owens Corning pink foam) over the tar paper and then the vinyl on top. The back wall of my house is in direct sunlight in the morning. I’m in NYC and we have cold nights at this time of year with mild days. I’ve noticed that in the morning I hear some creaks from the siding. I’ve done a lot of siding in the past but never noticed this. I’ve left quarter inch gaps at all the terminations (j-channel, corners etc) and I didn’t nail anything tightly. I’m guessing that the siding cools over night and when the sun beats on it in the morning it heats it up and I’m hearing the expansion noises. Does anyone else have experience with these noises? They seem to go away after a little while and I don’t hear anything anymore. Is there anything I should check and will it possibly stop all together as the siding ages (its just been put on within 1 week ago). Thanks.
Richie

That's normal. Goes away after the places it's rubbing wears enough to be too loose to make the noises anymore.
Cool...thanks.
Vinyl squeaks when it rubs on that EPS foam. It'll quiet down after a while.

The vinyl siding on my house has been on since 1991 and the south side still creaks for about 1-1/2 hrs every day.
I hate vinyl siding, I am taking it down to put up cedar.
