Came across an article recently on various “soft” floorings, (vinyl tile, linoleum, cork, etc.). There was a small insert on “vinyl strip” flooring. Aparently it comes in 3″- 4″ strips to resemble wood strip flooring. The small photo of a kitchen installation alongside “looked” great. (kinda like the picture of the Big Macs that only seem to exist in ads.)
I am planning to renovate my kitchen this year and I`m looking for alternatives. We both love the look of wood, but I`ve seen what happens to wood floors in kitchens with four kids running around. My wife aint crazy `bout ceramic tile and I`m not in love with vinyl sheet or linoleum.
I`m curious as to whether any of you are familiar with the vinyl strip. Ever installed, seen it installed or even heard of it?
I plan on checking it out for myself but would always apreciate any input.
Thanks in advance,
Jay

I'm thinking I remember installing it once a few yrs ago. A plank type vinyl from armstrong if I remember right. Went in ok. Customer spec'd it. Believe it was a 7" by 3' pc. It was supposed to look like a white washed oak. There was no confusing it with wood.

Jay -
Have you considered a penetrating oil finish on a wood floor. We used Penofin interior oil on oak floors in our kitchen, and with two teenagers and a dog it still looks new after four years. Nice sheen, and if wear spots should show up, they can have finish reapplied w/o stripping.
We used a mid-brown tone.
Thier website is: http://www.penofin.com/interiortip.htm
Thanks much for the info, I will most certainly look into it!
