How have You approached a conceret basement floor that had vinyl tile glued to the concrete with the black adhesive??
I tore up the rug and discovered this. Has anyone ever used jifset right over this tile.
If it does contain asbestos, is there any way to seal or go over this junk, without having to remove it????

How well are the tile adhered to the concrete?
What do you want to put over the floor?
How uneven is the floor?

If the tiles are 9x9", you can be sure they contain asbestos. If 12x12" it could go either way, depending on how old they are. Someone may remember the cut off date for asbestos in floor tile. If in doubt have it tested. Take a small corner sample to a local testing lab, you'll locate in the phone book.
OTH, if they are stuck tight and and the floor is level enough for your project, do what Calvin was leading up to. Don't disturb it, encapsulated it.

The tile is 9x9 and I am having it tested tomm.
However I am hoping that they give me a way to go over the existing tile.
It is on a slab and is smooth and well intact. They will come up very easily, however they are not buckling or anything. I plan to put either ceramic or porcelain over it, depending on the homeowners' selection.

My parents had that asbestos tile in their kitchen, and we had sheet vinyl put down over it. The tiles were in mostly good shape (but worn and ugly) and only coming loose in a few places. The installers reglued the few loose pieces and used that leveling compound stuff or whatever it is they use to fill in any cracks, and the installation worked out fine. I think it's probably better to leave your tiles in place and cover them up.
