I am planning on replacing the railing and decking of a small (5’x10′) rooftop deck due to water leaking into living quarters below. The existing walking surface is covered by a vinyl type material (green color). Since the deck is fairly small, and having a concern with regular maintenance,we would like to have the new walking surface covered in a similar material in lieu of installing wood decking over sleepers. Any suggestions on an appropriate “vinyl type” material to be specified for the new walking surface?

I just came from this site. I'm looking for similar product for a job where they can't afford the EPDM with wood on sleepers.
Maybe someone else can chime in. PVC vinyl roofs used to have problems, some with installation, some with high expansion and contraction causing wrinkling of the surface and uplift in high winds. I've been out of the spoecialty for years.
Used a product a couple of years ago, came in about 3'x5' sheets approx.1/2" thick. Had a granular surface and laid over EPDM, roofer called it a walking pad. If you want ,I'll check with him on monday to see who makes it. He loves it when we give him those jobs, with about 2 dozen posts to flash around on a flat roof deck. Makes you glad you're not the roofer.

Hydro-Stop makes a system for roof decks that we really like. Check out their traffic coat at http://www.hydro-stop.com Hope this helps.
Thanks for the tip. Any problems with this product in a Northeast climate?
None that I know of. I would contact someone at hydro-stop to get the most up to date information. I can tell you it is Dade County, Florida approved. TCW Specialists in Custom Remodeling.
Thanks! I will give them a call.

Mager,,we have done a lot of projects like yours with a torch down, its like one piece of rubber when your done,,as long as you have a roofer like rick,he uses flashing into the existing building encluding the patio door and siding or brick or what ever you have,a cant strip next to that 4''x4'' metal along the outside, but you cant walk on it,or not for long, we then lay down cca stringers 1x4 or 2x4 depending on the height of the door, and screw the decking to that,,,the big mistake, and we have a steady business taring them out, is the contractor( term used very kindley) lets the guys nail the stringers down,,thru the torch down,,ghesssss so stupid!!,I have them out now over 15 years old and no problem.. Detial in the finish is the key,,it just takes a few minents to turn a most execlent project into hammered S###T,,,John Hyatt deckmastersllc.com
