I demo’ing our 1931 bathroom that has pink tile on a 1″-1 1/2″ thick mortar bed. The bed is set on wire lath. I have been pounding away with a small sledge hammer and prying the lath away from the studs. Is there a better way. The other side of the wall that I’m working on now has new drywall on the other and no cracks have appeared. The next wall has the original plaster on wood lath (the studs are also turned on their sides) and I’m afraid that if I beat on it like I did the first wall all of the plaster on the other side will crack and fall off. I thought about using a diamond blade and cutting strips but will the blade cut the metal lath?
Any tips ?

Archy,
Yes, use the saw to cut into strips. It will cut the lath like it wasn't there. Cross-kerf the strips so they aren't too long. About 4 square feet is a managable size, but your mileage may vary.
