working on the new place today i found myself thinking about the best ways to patch miles of hairline plaster cracks, and removing wall paper in the whole 2nd story. Just thought this may be a good topic to throw some ideas around.
i gouge out the cracks and toothbrush bonding agent in pack full with PoP and durabond mix, sand and paint. Bad ones get tape.
And the wall paper, have no idea where to start there.
So the floors open, what do you guys do, techniques, tips?

There was an article years ago, by Mario Rodriguez, I think.
He applied basically fiberglass screening to walls to get rid of multiple cracks. Apply a coat of compound, bed the screening, and finish with a topcoat.
Or there's the infamous D-mix. Use the advanced search function to learn more.
For wallpaper, use one of those scoring thingies, and a steamer. Sometimes there's no easy way except elbow grease.
ive read all about D-mix, i use something like it for skim coats, drywall mud and PoP, a spray bottle and 14" trowel to smooth it out. Very fast and easy. patches done in minutes.
i never thought about screening multiple cracks, I always cut it out and patched board back in. screening and skim coating would be easier and less materials
Think i do have one of those paper tiger scoring doodads. thought about maybe pulling base/casing and hanging 1/4" over the top of it all. I could run new wiring/outlets before, so that idea is still valid and on the table. Woods favorite carpenter

Forget the primal scream, just ROAR!!!
Just finished a large job with similar problems, entire wall surface had millions of hair line cracks. Primed the walls, covered with 3' wide fiberglass mess tape. Three coats of mud, paint, etc, etc. Excellent results.
Wall paper, just remove with a steamer, and pump sprayer.
