Several years ago we put wallpaper in a bathroom over wooden walls. Over time, the seams have separated. I believe this is due to wood movement, as the seam is the ‘weak’ point on the wallcovering. Is there anything we can put on the walls to prevent this from happening again – – besides drywall? The house is over 100 years old with 12 ft. ceilings, don’t want to be wallpapering too often.

There is a backer paper that does work when going over cracked plaster, paneling and other goofy surfaces. It can even be painted. It is a thicker "paper" than normal wall paper. That could work for you. Ask at a good paper store.
