more info needed, are you talkng about paint?
Dowhat to them?I do the floors first when it comes to protecting them. I do the walls first when it comes to repair and replacing them. But if it is a total gut and remodel, it doesn't make much difference unless you count finishing floors last.

Sorry Doc(and everyone else)I hope the additional information will help.I am planning create a new drywall (hang drywall over the existing drywall), and do a floating floor (wood) over an existing floor. The 2nd part would then be kitchen cabinets etc.
When were you going to do the new casings, extension jambs, baaseboards, and such? You are creating a lot of headaches for yourself by hanging new drywall over old. What is the problem with what is there now? Generally, if bad enough to need to cover over, it is bad enough to tear out. After all, your name IS Demolition man!;)

I've done it both ways, new drywall over old and rip out and start fresh. My office used to be a dentist office. Had paneling glued and nailed to sheetrock. I took it all down and the glue ripped chunks of drywall out. Because they were treatment rooms, I thought the extra layer of rock would help with sound and make them more private so I put new over old. All the windows, doors had to be built out for molding. All the outlets and switches had to have extensions put in the box to flush with drywall. Not sorry I did it but I ripped the stock for the jambs and it was tedious. Also put 3/8" 12' sheets on kitchen ceiling over old with help of drywall lift. Ceiling had been wallpapered and removal left it rough. That was a cinch, none of the problems mentioned above. I totally removed hallway drywall and had 90% of new installed only to realize I bought wrong thickness, so be carefull with that. Ended up using it in laundry room instead.
In answer to your question, I think I'd do walls first, clean up real well after, and than start floor. Your going to leave a gap at wall anyway for expansion, and baseboeard will cover it. What is the type floor your covering? By floating I assume it's engineered flooring correct? And if your doing new cabinets, did you want your new flooring to go under them? I'd ask the guys here about that first, might be a waste of money puuting expensive flooring where you won't see it.
Good Luck
Thanks Doc
VERY much appreciated. I think after this I will do what I do best - demolition. Thanks again for the great advice.
What would your choice be? Spend the money and do the floor, or just do a 2 * 4 base and then flooring up to that?
Thanks again.

Your first post said this was an apartment, something you'll be in how much longer? Answer to that would dictate what I would do. If not long I'd go up to but not under cabinets. If your staying awhile, and I mean at least 2-3 more years, I might go under them. Of course if we are talking about a few square feet, not much money involved, I might go under anyway. Sorry for the wish washy answer, I'm starting to sound like my brother-in-law, the attorney.

Walls, gravity works there according to rumor so the stuff from the walls will fall to the floor. After you do the walls you do the floors and you are done!
You do the floors first and you will need to clean the floors after you do the walls..
Personally I like to paint the floors first then put the carpet on the wall.
