A friend of mine called me tonight and asked me to help him build bouncy floor for his martial arts studio. I figured I would ask the gods of breaktime for some help. The floor area is about 25′ X 28′. It would be something like what they use for gymnastics. He has the mats already but he needs to build the structure underneath. Have any of you built anything like this or have had experience with it. Thanks a bunch for your input.

Yes. Same as dance studio or excercise room. This was discussed previously here - search for dance floor. Also, check out Robbins Floors in Dayton or Cincinatti area. Check this link: http://www.calarts.edu/~dk/flooring.html#sprung
If you want to site build, simplest and many would say best is a 5 layer basket weave: 1X4's flt, 16" o.c., staggered on centers - 5 layers. Then subflooring - like plywood. Then finish floor - perhaps a Marmoleum or similar sheet good. Or forego subfloor and sheetgoods and use a maple t&g with tung oil finish for the very best.
Post again or email for more help if you'd like.
