WTF is going on with the steel door units from Lowes ( and one from a local yard not Lowes) warping?
I have 4 entrance doors installed at various times over the last 3 years..3 of them are now at the point of being more than just annoying, they have actually began to get worse.
Latch strikes have been adjusted, I have securely screwed the hinges into the jacks, as level as level gets, and plumb, in plane as can be measured ( 2 are in log walls with 2×8 bucks, one of the four is in the worse wall for planer, and it is the one that is fine) yet I still have gapping at the head/free swing corner.
The weatherstip can’t be packed out any further like I had done in the past ( a thin rope behind the fold can help with slight gaps).
Straight edge tells me its the door slab AND the jambs..temperature difference on the slab faces?
Jambs have been screwed and foamed in place when installed, and the doors were perfect then..what gives?
These are all foam filled steel half lites crossbuck bottom style.
Pullin my hair out here.

The rest of the house? Your hair ain't gonna fix it.
I'm not much of a carp, but concrete walls sure make for nice door operation. My complaint was about latches, until I started using the high-dollar industrial models.

The house is solid as can be. Looks like Tony nailed it..the sun is killing everything.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

any of them have storm doors?
face the sun?
Metal doors will warp when one side is hotter than the other.

oooohhhhmmmmmm......
No storms
Yes sun...
duh, the worst two are west and south facing.
Ok, if thats the deal, adding storms NOW ain't gonna help.
Wonder if I can "tweak " the flatness of the doors somehow? Cambered cauls and clamps?
I had previously thought about the heat thing, being as teh south facing door is also about 5' from the front of the woodstove..it could get hot inside and cold outside pretty drastically differntly.
The other door West , is just a kitchen to porch passage..but full sun in late afternoons.
North door, East door are relatively OK, the other south door is slightly shaded so it too is pretty OK.

I tried to tweak a steel door once, it came from the factory warped.
The metal wanted buckle at the knob holes.
I learned to train a door, pull the weather stripping and put a piece of wood between the stops and door.
If your door is warped 1/2", make your piece 1" and tape it to the jamb. Slowly keep pressure against the door until it latches. Pay attention to the metal around the knobs.
Pull the piece of wood and test the fit. Rinse, lather, repeat. Woods favorite carpenter
Cool.
I figgured a 12 lb sledge and a barrel bolt would be a problem in the making (G)
Seems just the top 14" of the stike side and halfway across the head are where it's gapping inward.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

Adding storms might make them even hotter.
Are they painted a dark or darkish color? TFB (Bill)
Nope. still in factory primer.
Somewhere in my mind I remember seeing a doorstop/weather strip in one. It was a clear pine about 1.25" x 5/8ths or so thick with a white bulb type gasket built in..thinkng something like that added on might help..would look like hell, but get me through the worst of winter till plan "B" is found.
Plan "B" is me making new doors..all wood, something more fitting with a log house.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

Rehang the doors so the other side is out. Keep an eye on them and when they start to flatten out, run quick and build a roof over each to prevent direct sun on one face.
And stop using that wood stove. Chase the missus around more and you won't need the heat.
Let's see...what else?...Ever wonder why "holistic" doesn't start with "w"?
LOL
Yeah, I'll get right on that rehanging part.
