How do you deal with a toilet waste pipe (4″pvc) that’s not quite plumb? After
temporarily installing the toilet flange it really looks cockeyed. Should I just
shove it to the floor and screw it down or what?

If you've got enough flex, just glue on the flange, let it dry, and screw it down. Done.

I'm not sure how much you can flex pvc but I really don't have a choice
at this point. Unfortunately, it's on the second floor so I guess I'll just
keep an eye on the ceiling! Thanks
how about cutting the pipe on the other side of 90 , adding a coupling and redoing so its plumb
Problem solved. I put the flange in a pot of boiling water with a piece of 4" pipe attached to it. After a couple of minutes I pulled it out, put the flange flat on the floor and while pushing down pushed it to one side. It worked!!! Fits absoluteyflat. There's probably some technical guy out there who'll say I've altered the molecular structure of the pvc and that failure is eminent. But hey I'll deal with that later.
Actually, it may mean the end to the universe as we know it. But only if you cross the streams.
