The filters that remove chlorine are expensive. Reverse osmosis may be your best bet.
There is a basic activated charcoal filter exactly for that.
After getting a new refigerator that had a filter and like you I have good water, but realy like the taste after the filter.
There are several levels of filters, but the basic one is order and taste.
Now there are fancier assemblies and ones with more features, such as dual stage (with added sediment filters) and/or come with faucets. But those use more expensive filters and after are smaller and don't last as long.
This is what I got.
Whirlpool undersink filter.

Whirlpool WHCF-DUF for $30.
(use zip code 64015 and pick Independence).
And the filter is $8.50 and last 6 months. I have mine feed my refigerator (the filter for that was about $50/year) for cold water and ice and to my instand hot water dispenser.
HD has a similar GE unit and they all use common filters that are also made by several others.
The local Lowes had a cross reference of the different brands and filters.
The problem is that to remove substantial amounts of chlorine you need more (expensive) than the standarr "taste/odor" filter, and it needs to be changed more frequently.
They are NSF certified to remove 80.5% of the chlorine taste and ordor for 2000 gal based on a load of 2 mg/L.Now there are also filters that remove 99%, plus a lot of other things and you are right, they are about $20 and last 3 months. But for taste and order on a "good" water supply all that is needed is the this one.
