Hurricane Wilma has ruined my wood flooring in Florida. Any suggestions on what to install instead of real wood that will last if water gets on it (other than Linoleum or tile). I like the wood feel and was thinking about laminate but thought that it has backing that is not friendly to water.
Thanks Stevek

Terazzo. Stained and textured concrete. Stone.
None of your engineered wood products, and none of the laminate products like Pergo, will withstand soakings from floods and storm surges.
If you've gotta have wood under your feet, you might consider moving to Nebraska, or Indiana, or anywhere that's not hurricane country.
The had to use the Greek alphabet this year, there were so many storms. Whaddya think it'll be like next year, and the year thereafter?
How about cork, if you want a softer walking surface that can get wet?
Also, from a purely practical standpoint you could install an elastomeric deck surface on concrete.

The one thing about a floating floor, whether it be laminate or engineered, is that if it gets wrecked, you just lift it up, break it into pieces and throw it away. Its not nailed down, or grouted in, nor does it hold the water and encourage mold like carpet.
