We are having a problem with “ghost lines” and staining on the taped joints of a drywall ceiling. The ceiling is textured using joint compound. Approximately 2 to 4 feet of the taped joint of a group of boards has turned yellow along the width (2 inches) of the joint. There are no leaking pipes or HVAC ducts above these discolored areas. None of the drywall shows signs of mold, h20 damage or any other mechanical damage; the drywall is solidly anchored. The room is a finished walkout basement approximately 16 x 20. There is an unvented gas fireplace in one corner of the room. There are 3 adjacent small unfinished/unheated rooms along one side of this room. A small piece of the ceiling insulation has been pulled away ( for an unknown period of time) allowing air from the unheated space to circulate in the plenum above the stained areas. Has anyone out there run accross a problem like this ??? Any advice/comments will be appreicated. Thanks.
