I’ve been reading Bruce Harley’s “Insulate and Weatherize”. So far it’s been very educational and I highly recommend it.
On page 48, Bruce says, “Most weatherstripping available at hardware stores is not worth the packaging it comes in.”
Bruce goes on to say that he prefers vinyl-covered V-section (Q-lon is a brand name)
Given the hardware store statement, I wasn’t sure where to purchase the better quality stuff so checking the resources at the bakc of the book turned me on the Schlegel who manufactures Q-lon.
I traded a few emails with a Schlegel sales rep and, to make a long store short, he said they market it under “Frost King” and M-D Building products which Home Depot and Lowe’s carry.
So I’m confused, I assumed Bruce’s statement meant don’t buy the weatherstripping at the big boxes. But for the most part all the big boxes carry are Frost King or M-D.
Does anyone have experience with these or have other weatherstripping they’d recommend?
TIA
